It really is magic!  These two examples should shed some light on how to use ImageMagick for batch operations. (Also serves as a reminder for me!) . Remember that you must first install ImageMagick.

Create Lowres and Thumbs from CSV

This Powershell script will create a thumbnail and a watermarked lowres image.  You will need to provide a watermark image and a CSV that contains the Path of the image and an ID of a folder to nest it under.

Create Lowres and Thumbs from Directory

This bash script will create a lowres watermarked image and a thumbnail for every TIF or DNG in a directory (recursively).

Mac and Samba

So you want a Mac to use a SMB share hosted on linux/unix box?

At first glance everything is straight forward until clients start receiving misleading permissions errors.  In my case this was caused by Mac clients settings folder configuration files (named .DS_Store) on shared resources.  This would cause another Mac client to perceive this folder as being “locked”.

After reading some posts from people smarter than me, I compiled these sensible settings/commands:

SAMBA Server Settings

Samba Veto Criteria:

Mac Client Settings

Prevent DS_Store files in the first place with this command.

… and while messing around with hidden files it may be useful to view them

File Directory Powershell Scripts

Ever needed to build a database of metadata from a directory?

Below are some powershell scripts that will make your life [a little] easier.

Directory Contents to CSV

Copy-Rename from CSV

*Be careful with the “-Force” flag

Remove Empty Directories

WordPress on IIS 8.5

Add “Authenticated Users” to the IIS website directory; usually “C:\inetpub\wwwroot”.  After adding the “Authenticated Users” grant the group “Modify” rights.

Next, under the advanced settings for the application pool, set the pool to run under the “LocalSystem” instead of the default “ApplicationPoolIdentity”.

The rewrite for permalinks should look like this. If using the UI be sure to select “Is not a File” and “Is not a Directory”.

Here are some plugins I use on nearly every install

In the WP-Admin > Settings > Permalinks I like to use a custom structure of  /blog/%post_id% and a category base of blog/category.

If your MySQL database is on localhost  host, in wp-config.php you should use the loop-back IP address for faster resolution.  For example: define('DB_HOST', ''); .

For larger uploads alter value for upload_max_filesize in the php.ini file, for example: upload_max_filesize = 100M.
