Mac and Samba

So you want a Mac to use a SMB share hosted on linux/unix box?

At first glance everything is straight forward until clients start receiving misleading permissions errors.  In my case this was caused by Mac clients settings folder configuration files (named .DS_Store) on shared resources.  This would cause another Mac client to perceive this folder as being “locked”.

After reading some posts from people smarter than me, I compiled these sensible settings/commands:

SAMBA Server Settings

Samba Veto Criteria:

Mac Client Settings

Prevent DS_Store files in the first place with this command.

… and while messing around with hidden files it may be useful to view them
